摘要 Ceramic composite tube for the barrel of a firearm consists of a fibre-reinforced material made into a strip (14) with fibres fixed together at one end (17) and loose the other. The strip is coiled on a mandrel (18) in a screw-like manner so that the free ends of the fibre are inclined towards the tube axis (23) in the shooting direction (A). The fibre reinforced material is carbon reinforced silicon carbide or carbon. The outer layer (11) of the barrel (10) is also a fibre material. The ceramic composite tube is produced as a continuous endless tube by winding around a mandrel with protruding cams. ADVANTAGE - The tube has good high temp. resistance, good wear resistance, good corrosion resistance and good temp. change resistance. It also has good mechanical strength, low brittleness and high tensile strength. Avoids the expensive shrink fitting method of the prior art.
