PURPOSE:To take out the electrons excited in a superconductor by the absorption of radiation efficiently as a signal, in the radiation detector using a superconductive tunnel junction. CONSTITUTION:As a lower superconductor, a single crystal Al film 12 deposited in vacuum on a sapphire single crystal substrate 11 is used, and a tunnel barrier layer 13 and an upper superconductor 14 are arranged in order thereon. Hereby, electrons excited in the single crystal Al film by the absorption of radiation reach the tunnel barrier layer efficiently, with the rate where the electrons are recoupled in a film small since this film is single crystal and is excellent in quality, so large signal charge can be gotten.
