PURPOSE:To obtain the titled single-mode preform having low transmission loss caused by residual OH group, by depositing quartz glass powder to a quartz glass rod under specific condition, and heating the powder in an atmosphere containing fluorine-containing gas. CONSTITUTION:Fine particles (soot) prepared by introducing SiCl4 into a CO-O2 flame of the burner 4 are deposited to the outer surface of a high-purity quartz glass rod 1 pulled up under rotation, to form the layer of fine particles 2 of pure SiO2 glass. The objective single-mode optical fiber preform having low transmission loss can be manufactured by heat-treating the obtained composite 3 composed of the rod 1 and the fine particles 2 in an atmosphere containing a fluorine-containing gas. |
