PURPOSE:To obtain a bis(1,2-bissilylethylene) compound which is useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines, agrochemicals and fine chemicals by allowing 1,2-bis(dimethylsilyl)benzene to react with bis(acetylene) in the presence of a platinum compound. CONSTITUTION:The reaction of 1,2-bis(dimethylsilyl)benzene with bis(acetylene) of the formula: R<1>-CidenticalC-A-CidenticalC-R<1> (R<1> is monovalent and A is divalent group) is carried out in the presence of a platinum compound such as tetrakis(diphenylphosphine)platinum in the absence of solvent at 0 to 150 deg.C to give a compound of the formula (Me is methyl). The molar ratio of the benzene to the acetylene is 1/50 to 10/1 and the amount of the catalyst used is 0.00001 to 0.5 mole per mole of the benzene. The dehydrogenative reaction between 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(dimethylsilyl)benzene and bis(acetylene) gives polycarbosilanes which are useful as heat-resistant materials, electrically conductive materials, or preceramics. |
