[Also in Division H2] A female plug-in contact comprises a U- shaped contact spring 1 which has a hole at the base of the U and in which the ends of the arms have inwardly-bent portions (5). A tension spring 11 inside the contact spring has a stud which projects through the hole in the base of the U and the arms (11a of the tension spring enter recesses 6 formed in the inwardlybent portions (5). An apparatus for assembling the two parts comprises a guide 2 in which the contact spring 1 is placed and a slide member 3 which pushes it towards a stop 4. At this stage the contact spring is finish-formed except that the portions 5 are not fully bent-in. The tension spring 11 is placed in a pocket 10 in a slide member 9 so that the tension spring is at an oblique angle to the contact spring 11. A die 12 and a forked member 13 are movable at right-angles to the slide member 3. The slide 9 is moved to insert the tension spring 11 into the contact spring 1 until the stud extends through the hole in contact spring and the member 13 then advances and rotates the tension spring until it lies wholly within the contact spring. At the same time the die 12 has advanced and acts as a guide to centre the tension spring. The stop 4 and the slide member 9 retract and the slide 3 advances to move the contact spring against the die 12 so that the portions (5) of the contact spring are bent to their final positions in which the arms of the tension spring enter recesses in the inwardly bent portions (5). The die and the member 13 then retract and the finished contact is ejected by further forward movement of the slide member 3. |
