摘要 PURPOSE:To provide a carbon composite material excellent in wear resistance. CONSTITUTION:This carbon composite material consists of matrix carbon as the base material and ceramics embedded in the base material. The average thermal expansion coefft. alpha1 in 20-1000 deg.C range of the base material C and the average thermal expansion coefft. alpha2 in 20-1000 deg.C range of the ceramics are specified to the relation of -2<=alpha1-alpha2<=+3.5. By selecting the base material and the ceramics having almost the same average thermal expansion coefft., spaces or strain appearing in the interface between the ceramics and the base material can be decreased, so that the composite material can give sliding resistance caused by friction or sliding and that dropping of ceramics can be suppressed. The carbon composite material has excellent wear resistance compared with a carbon material consisting of only the base material but containing no ceramics. If oxide ceramics are used, the coefft. of friction icreases, and if boride ceramics are used, the coefft. of friction decreases. When nitride ceramics are used, a medium coefft. of friction between these is obtd.
