PURPOSE:To provide an image processor capable of applying sufficient smoothing processing to a mesh point image while holding the sharpness of density on the edge of a character image or a linear image and effectively emphasizing the edge of an image even in the case of a mesh point image or a character image in a photographic image. CONSTITUTION:The edge variable of input image data outputted from a scanner 100 is detected by an edge variable detecting circuit 104, the detected edge variable is compensated by an edge variable compensating circuit 105 and the mixing ratio of output image data D1 outputted from an edge emphasizing filter 102 to output image data D2 outputted from a smoothing filter 103 which is to be applied to a mixer 107 is calculated by a mixing rate calculating circuit 106 based upon the value of the compensated edge variable. |
