PURPOSE:To provide an optical information recording medium capable of high- speed recording by rewriting, having high recording sensitivity and satisfactory signal quality such as C/N and rate of erasure, excellent in preservability in an environment at high temp. and humidity and capable of overwriting and to provide a recording and reproducing method with the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A first transparent interference layer 2 of a ZnS-SiO2 mixture having 1,000-1,500Angstrom thickness, a phase change layer 3 of Ge1Sb2Te4 having 200-500Angstrom thickness, a second transparent interference layer 4 of a ZnS-SiO2 mixture having 1,500-3,000Angstrom thickness, a reflecting layer 5 of NiCr having 200-1,000Angstrom thickness and a protective layer 6 are successively formed on a substrate 1. Recording is carried out by irradiation with laser beams having high power and medium power through the substrate 1 in accordance with binary information and reproduction is carried out by irradiation with a laser beam having low power under movement. |
