The invention relates to a hand-held device for the cryogenic treatment of a body, comprising a container for a cryogenic fluid and an application end. According to the invention, the container is in the form of an isothermal reservoir (1, 1' 50, 500) comprising at one of its ends a wide filler opening which can be sealed by a stopper (6 to 10, 65, 650) while its other end has passing through it a channel or conduit (12, 12', 54, 540) for the flow of liquid, this other end being equipped with an adapted application nozzle (5, 5', 58, 84, 580), the sealing stopper of the reservoir being provided with a vent (11a, 72, 720) for the escape of the vaporised fraction of the cooling liquid and comprising, if appropriate, means (10, 10a) for regulating the cross-section of this vent. The invention is used in particular in cryotherapy and cryosurgery in the medical and veterinary field. <IMAGE>
