A component based on intermetallic phases of the system titanium-aluminium has an aluminium content between 42 at % and 53 at %. A process is also disclosed for producing such mechanically highly stressable, oxidation and corrosion-resistant components. The object of the invention is to obtain such a component in which the good mechanical properties of the titanium-aluminium system remain well defined and the requirement of an oxidation and corrosion-resistance at service temperatures of up to 900 DEG C is satisfied. This problem is solved by a component having at its surface a lamellar, eutectoid Ti3Al/TiAl structure.
