The left one (B) has a toothed bar and the right one (C) has a smooth iron bar, both are movable up and down. An adjustable track (D) connects the two bars and the scale balance slides inside it. The adjustment is achieved by making positive contact with the adjustable track. The lead can be continuously increased or decreased.
