Procedure for the preparation of a solid catalyst based on phosphoric acid comprising: - mixing an inorganic support containing silica, with phosphoric acid; - forming the material into pellets; - calcining the pellets; characterized in that, after calcination, the catalyst is cooled to a temperature of between 80.degree.C and 180.degree.C and subsequently treated with a mixture of air and water vapour.
