PURPOSE:To provide a light structure for achieving highly rigid crankshaft supporting portions, by fitting a bearing cap made of an iron alloy to each of a plurality of journal walls formed in a crankcase in a unitary manner, and fastening a bridge member to the lower surface of the bearing cap. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder block of a V-type multi-cylinder internal combustion engine is composed of two cylinders 11, 12 disposed in the formed of a V-shape and a crankcase 2 for connecting the lower portions of said two cylinders 11, 12 in a unitary manner. In the crankcase 2, a plurality of journal walls 7 are formed with proper intervals to each cylinder to extend in the direction of a crankshaft Sc. In such an arrangement, a recess is formed centrally of the lower surface of each journal wall 7, and a bearing cap 11 is inserted into each of said recesses and then fastened securely in place by means of bolts 15 to support the crankshaft Sc between two bearing halves 8, 9 of the journal walls 7 and the bearing caps 11. Further, a bridge member 17 formed with a main galley 17 for oil passages is disposed under the lower surfaces of the bearing caps 11 and fastened to the same by bolts 16. |
