An improved design of the type of "roasting cannon" is proposed to generateboth an improved method of popping cereals and at a lower cost. A compact,simplified roasting chamber construction has been developed comprising apermanent, heated external drum and a compact connecting rotating internaldrum. It is preferable that there is a front chamber between the closed endof the permanent drum and the front of the rotating inner drum, in which thegrain can be added. The grain transport to the rotating roasting zone takesplace via an Archimedes screw which is attached to the driving shaft of therotating drum, whereby the latter can form a permanently coupled point withthe end section of the conveyor screw. Ring shaped electrical heatingcollars, which are fitted across the whole surface of the external drumprovide uniform heat with minimum energy loss. The new system eliminates therequirement for heavy, complicated rotating roasting cannon construction andalso reduces energy use and the production cycle time. |
