PURPOSE:To obtain stable display characteristics of the discharge type display device which has the integrated common electrode featuring long-life and high efficiency. CONSTITUTION:The discharge type display device having X electrodes which are arranged in parallel, Y electrodes 4 which are arranged crossing them at right angles, and the integrated common electrode 6 which is interposed between the both 2 and 4 stably generates writing discharge and maintaining discharge between the Y electrodes 4 and integrated common electrode 6 because of a reset period wherein pulses are applied between the X electrodes 2 and integrated common electrode 6 once each time all lines are scanned and auxiliary discharge generated with the pulses applied to the X electrodes in line sequence. A light emission time determined by the number of maintaining pulses is made uniform by reciprocal scanning and the time of one field is divided to weight the light emission time. Thus, the reset period and auxiliary discharge are provided, so stable display characteristics are obtained; and the light emission time is made uniform by the reciprocal scanning to make a high-brightness display and perform gradation control. |
