In a distillation column with a vapour side stream take-off, the vapour product taken off is condensed in a condenser (4). The vapour line (2) provided for the product take-off leads into a dip vessel (3), whose upper end is connected to the condenser (4) and whose lower end is connected to a discharge pump (8). Inert gas contained in the condensate is returned to the column (1) above the side stream take-off (2) through an inert gas line (7) fitted to the upper end of the condenser (4).
