发明名称 SWAGED CONTACT STRIP
摘要 1,211,798. Making printed circuit board contacts. ELCO CORP. 10 April, 1968 [13 April, 1967], No. 17373/68. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] A method of progressively forming the nose section of a contact for a printed circuit board from a metal strip 10 comprises, feeding a strip to a piercing station, piercing a U-shaped hole in the strip adjacent an edge thereof, to form a first cantilevered lug 60 directed towards the edge, feeding the strip to a swaging station, and simultaneously piercing the strip at the piercing station and swaging the lug to reduce its thickness and increase its width. The contacts are made from a strip 50, preferably of phosphor-bronze, wherein the thickness of the part 53, which forms a bar 11, is greater than that of part 51, a step 55 in the top surface of the strip indicating the demarcation between the two. Preferably the thickness of part 51 is reduced by milling. When an end 55 of the strip is fed to the forming die, a pilot hole 56 is first punched. At station A holes 57, 58, 59 are punched and the formation of the lug 60 is completed at station B. The lug is next reduced in thickness by swaging, except along its edges 62, then successively four grooves (66), Fig. 7 (not shown), are coined on its upper surface, it is slotted at 29 and trimmed to width at stations C to F respectively. At station F a notch 30<SP>1</SP> is also formed. The slotted lug is bent into a wiping finger 21 at station G and at the next station a hole 68 is punched to define a cantilever ear 69. At station I the wiping finger is bent out of the plane of the strip along a bend line 27, the notch 30<SP>1</SP> facilitating making the bend. Finally at station J a tail section 15 of the contact is formed and at station K vertical webs 72, 64 are removed. The operations performed at stations D and F may be transposed and individual contacts may be made by blanking the formed contacts from a strip of uniform thickness. The contacts are mounted in an insulated casing (31) provided with holes (33) for receiving the tail sections 15, Fig. 1 (not shown), to form connectors into which printed circuit boards are plugged. A number of connectors are mounted side-by-side in alignment on a metal plate (42) so that they are interconnected by the bar 11.
