The trocar has a sleeve within which is a slider (10) which is movable between a closed and an open position. In the open position, the slider is held loosely by a bolt (16) which is spring loaded and moves into position as soon as the bolt reaches the open position. The bolt works against a spring (24) which is located inside the periphery of the slider. The slider is moved into the closed position by a spring (13). There is another bolt (23) to move the initial bolt out of the fixed position. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides for minimal sized holes to be created for insertion of probes, needles, and other such surgical instruments.
