Foil or sheet is made from an Al base alloy consisting of at least 96À5% Al, 0À73-2À5% Fe and 0À1-2À5% Mg and/or 0À1-1À5% Mn, with Si and any incidental elements not exceeding 1% in total. Specified incidental elements in examples are 0À09 or 0À14% Cu, 0À02 or 0À06% Zn, and 0À01 or 0À02% Ti. There are claims to alloys in the above range which contain Mn as a necessary ingredient. The alloys may be hot rolled, optionally annealed at 650‹ F., and then cold rolled, no thermal treatment being necessary at any thickness of the metal below 0À1 inch although cold reductions of 90% can be obtained. Use: Cans for foodstuffs. |
