VACUUM PUMPS AND AUTOMATIC INFLATING PACKERS Two different types of pumping systems use compressed air to pump fluids continously without inducing undesirable disturbances to the surrounding hydrologic regime. The suction in these pumping sytems is created by supplying compressed air to the pumping device of either pumping system, through the annular space between the inner and the outer tubings of a coaxial hose. The discharge air stream carrying the influent is discharging through the inner tubing of the coaxial hose. The pumping device employed by either pumping system, constitutes the prime difference between these pumping systems. Solid particles in the influent are filtered prior to entering either pumping system, and the influent is separated from the compressed air stream by passing the influent-compressed air mixture through separators upon discharge. Automatic inflating packers may be installed to either pumping system to enable it to exert suction, and extract fluids from the pores of the geologic formation through the screen of a monitoring well, as is often required for remediation purposes in hazardous wastes projects, or soil stabilization purposes in foundation engineering projects.
