Apparatus for spraying electrically charged particles of finely divided solid material comprises means 2 creating a stream of gas having the particles suspended therein, a baffle plate 2 disposed transversely in the bath of the stream so as to convert it into a radial outflowing sheet, means (13, 16) for creating a whirling vortex sheet of gas surrounding the stream so as to be impinged on from within by said outflowing sheet and to entrain the particles, and electrode means connected to a high voltage source and positioned for electrically charging the particles as they are discharged from the device. The baffle plate may be made of conducting material and connected to the high voltage source. The vortex may be formed by flowing gas through duct 3 to an annular chamber 12 and by passages 13 tangential to the central annular opening 16 of the member 10 having a conically flared outlet surface 14. |
