A valve assembly for exhausting a fluidoperated brake-clutch mechanism on a crankdriven press has an inner non-return valve 52 seated on a sleeve 51 which is moved off its seat 54 by the pressure in chamber 49 when the pressure in chamber 45 is exhausted by a solenoid-actuated valve. Chamber 49 and the mechanism are thus exhausted to chamber 491 Valve 52 allows the mechanism to be pressurized when the solenoid-actuated valve connects chamber 45 to a pump.
