<p>An image reproduction machine (10a) has an outlet opening (16a) through which successive image-imprinted paper sheets (32) are forwardly discharged by a spaced series of exit roller sets (26a). The discharged sheets (32) are delivered into an open-topped housing well area (14a). A deflector bar (60) adjacent the outlet opening (16a) has first downwardly projecting portions (90,100) that engage each discharging sheet (32) and temporarily corrugate and stiffen it in a manner ensuring that its front end portion will forwardly clear the rear horizontal surface edge of the well area before bending down to its level. These downwardly projecting portions (90,100) are interdigitated with the exit roller sets (26a) and positioned to perform their temporary corrugation function without crinkling the discharging sheets (32). The deflector bar (60) is also provided with second downwardly projecting portions (90,96) that function, as the stack nears its maximum height, to cause each successive discharging sheet (32) to engage the previously discharged sheet in a manner forwardly advancing and staggering the uppermost sheets to reduce the effective stack height adjacent the outlet opening. <IMAGE></p> |
