The pot is sealed by a lid at low pressure, while an elastic sealing ring (3) between them forms a pressure-resistant joint when cooking. The lid (2) contains a safety valve, and the edge of the pot supporting the ring contains a recess via which steam can be discharged. The portion of the ring covering the recess contains a shape-memory alloy (4) assuming a predetermined shape on reaching a set temperature, so as to lift the ring off a seating surface. This alloy can extend right round the periphery, or in a segment for part of it, and it can be in wire or small-plate form. The shape of the ring profile can be maintained, and the alloy can be between the lid and ring. ADVANTAGE - Entirely reliable operation, no separate valve being necessary.
