The filling system consists of a neck (11) which is situated in the feed channel (7) and guides the objects (8) being packed into a crate (1) through an aperture (17) in a cover (10). The aperture (17) is vertical and rectangular in shape, with its longer side at right angles to the direction of flow. The upper wall (24) of the guide neck (11) is rounded, and the cover (10) is sealed so that a controlled pressure can be created inside the chamber (5) containing the crate during the filling phase. The rectangular aperture is made with dimensions which are greater than the largest floating object which the system packs. Its larger dimension is greater than half the width of the crate. The pumping circuit for the fluid, e.g. water, in which the objects being packed float, has a suction unit (20) in the bottom of the chamber with apertures positioned so as to produce an even flow. ADVANTAGE - Enables crates to be filled with large volumes of floating objects, e.g. 300-500 kg, of fruit which will not stand impacts.
