Growth of vegetation on soil, without using agricultural implements or heavy amendments, comprises spreading on the soil a mixt. of: (A) a humus-forming material treated with at least one prod. contg. organic nitrogen which causes fermentation of the humus-forming material; (B) non-fermented vegetable flour, rich in "anti-deficiency" oligoelements; and (C) microorganisms and bacteria. If the soil is low in active calcium, calcium carbonate or potassium carbonate is pref. also applied, esp. in the form of slag. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process rapidly and naturally provides a complex horizon of plants, with flora and fauna similar to those in undisturbed soil. It can be applied to poor or sterile soils, esp. on motorway verges. (A)-(C) react with each other and with clay and mineral salts in the soil to give a clay-humus complex which mechanically stabilises the soil and fixes microorganisms and bacteria. The obtd. intermediate layer promotes seed germination and root growth.
