摘要 The ring (10) to be machined rotates on a spindle and slide which can be fed towards the cutting tool (14). The cutting tool rotates about a fixed spindle axis (16) in the opposite sense to the workpiece. The rotational speeds of the workpiece and tool are electronically controlled to maintain a specified ratio. As the workpiece is fed towards the tool, pockets (A1,A2--A13) are progressively scooped out in successive revolutions of the workpiece. The path of the tooltip relative to the work is cycloidal and the entry and exit surfaces produced by the tool as it periodically engages the work are segments of a cycloid. A cutting tool with several equally spaced tool tips may be used to increase the production rate. ADVANTAGE - Requires only simple robust machine tool without eccentric spindle.
