Barrier post (1) for the optional blocking of the access to given persons to reserved car parks or similar reserved parking areas, which post is mounted pivotably about a shaft (9), which is arranged close to the ground on a ground anchoring (2) and runs transversely to the driving-in direction, between an approximately vertical blocking position and an open position which is approximately horizontal or directed parallel to the ground and which, for the purposes of simpler and more convenient handling, is equipped with a drive unit (11) which at one end is held in a stationary manner in the upper post region and at the other end is rotatable about a pivoting axis (10) in the region close to the ground, which axis is arranged horizontally on the ground anchoring (2) parallel at a spacing to the shaft (9) of the post (1) (Figure 1).
