A cosmetic composition and an emulsion composition comprising 0.1-99 wt. % of an oleaginous component and 99.9-1 wt. % of an aqueous component, wherein cis- DELTA 9-octadecenoic acid or its derivative accounts for at least 85 wt. % of the oleaginous component, and cis- DELTA 9-unsaturated fatty acid or its derivative accounts for at least 90 wt. % while fatty acids other than the cis- DELTA 9-unsaturated fatty acids, their derivatives or other oleaginous components account for at most 10 wt. %. Since the oleaginous component contains cis- DELTA 9-octadecenoic acid or its derivative in a high concentration, it is possible to provide a cosmetic composition having heretofore unattainable excellent comfort in use and long-term stability and an emulsion composition having excellent emulsification stability.
