Metallic and metal-ceramic tool blanks are sintered by a process which is useful in the heat treatment of steel and steel alloy parts which undergo structural changes during processing and tend to warp. Warping is prevented by continuously upsetting the material during sintering. The blank, which has at least one sloping surface, is placed in a refractory mould, the interior surface of which is congruent with the blank and the length of the cavity exceeds that of the blank by an amount which enables the blank to move to the increasingly narrow part of the mould on shrinking and so remain in contact with the inner surfaces of the mould cavity.
|
