An element suitable for preparing a long lived gelatin lithographic printing plate is prepared by coating a gelatino-silver halide emulsion layer with a hexacyanoferrate. In process of use, the element is exposed to actinic radiation, developed in a conventional developer, and activated with a cupric ion solution to form a lithographic image which accepts ink in the exposed areas and water in the unexposed areas. Novel activating solutions for the silver halide are provided. The resulting printing plates are capable of yielding many thousands of impressions. |
