PURPOSE:To lessen an electric double-layer capacitor in inner resistance and self-discharge without decreasing it in electrostatic capacitance by a method wherein activated carbon which contains a specific amount of heavy metals is used as a polarizable electrode, and alkaline solution is used as electrolytic solution. CONSTITUTION:Activated carbon containing 1-5% by weight of heavy metals is used as a polarizable electrode 1 of an electric double-layer capacitor. Alkaline solution such as potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide or the like is used as electrolytic solution. Activated carbon used for the polarizable electrode 1 is made to contain heavy metal, whereby an electric double-layer capacitor is lessened in inner resistance, alkaline water solution which elutes no heavy metal is used as electrolytic solution so as not to produce self-discharge, and the heavy metal content of activated carbon is limited to 1-5% by weight to prevent the capacitor from deteriorating in electrostatic capacitance. |
