A rotary slide valve (1) for power-assisted steering of motor vehicles contains in a valve bore (5) of a valve cage (2) a rotary slide (4) linked to a steering shaft connection (23). A control bushing (7) can swivel over a limited angle in an axial bore (6) of the rotary slide (4). The rotary slide (4) has control longitudinal grooves (20) arranged in its axial bore (6) that cooperate with control longitudinal grooves (21) on the outer surface of the casing of the control bushing (7). The internal control bushing (7) is manufactured by a non-cutting forming process and can thus have relatively small dimensions. Both the control longitudinal grooves (21) and the control edges of the control bushing (7) may be manufactured by such a process, for example by cold forming. Thanks to the relatively small dimensions of the control bushing (7), the whole rotary slide valve (1) may be very compact.
