PURPOSE:To provide a damage inspecting device of a metal member capable of precisely inspecting the damage of the metal member in a short time, easily controlling the obtained damage data, and automatically and precisely judging the residual life of the metal member based on the degree of the damage. CONSTITUTION:A metal member (shaft) 1 is set on an inspecting device, an optical microscope 11 is moved to an inspection portion, and the image of the optical microscope 11 is picked up by a video camera 12 and processed by an image processing device 16. A computer 20 judges whether cracks are generated or not on the shaft 1 as damage based on the image-processed data. When the computer 20 recognizes the cracks, it confirms the shape of the cracks via the connection processing or integration processing with other cracks. The computer 20 analyzes the distribution of the confirmed cracks, determines the maximum length of the cracks, and judges the residual life of the shaft 1 based on a master curve of crack progress. |
