PURPOSE:To provide a food/beverage capable of suppressing the intake of carbohydrates in other foods by pre-, post- or simultaneous intake thereof with other foods, thus useful e.g. for preventing obesity and diabetes, containing an extract obtained by extracting Gymnema Inodorum with water or an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:Distilled water or an aqueous ethanol solution is added to the dry leaves of Gymnema Inodorum, a plant belonging to Gymnema Asclepiadaceae family native to India followed by agitation under heating and then filtered through a gauze, the resulting filtrate is centrifugarized, and the supernatant produced is collected to obtain an extract of the Gymnema Inodorum. Thus extract is then concentrated to dryness and the dried residue is ground into powder, which is then added to a beverage or food, thus obtaining the objective food/beverage for diet without impairing the flavor original to food or beverage and having the above-mentioned advantages. |
