The X-ray tube (2) has a rotary anode (3) supplied with power via a contact pin (12) sealed into an insulator (8) at the end of a projection from the evacuated metallic envelope (6). Another insulator (9) is sealed in a projection from the opposite side for the thermionic cathode (4). The potential difference (if any) between the envelope and the two-part housing (1a,1b) filled with coolant oil and sealed with O-rings (18,19) is substantially less than between the externally terminated high voltage cables (13,14) and the housing. ADVANTAGE - With vacuum envelope of X-ray tube and its housing at same potential, risk of flashover due to gas bubbles in insulating oil is avoided or reduced.
