PURPOSE:To provide the control method with superior operability capable of character insertion by easy operation. CONSTITUTION:The on-line terminal device where 2nd non-display characters are substituted for 1st non-display characters present in an input field formed on a display screen to enable the insertion of characters as many as the 2nd substituent non-display characters has an insertion key for indicating the insertion of characters into the input field and a painter which indicates a character position in the input field; when the insertion key is pressed, the painter is initially set at the tail character position in said input field (S11) and it is checked whether or not the character at the character position indicated by the pointer is a 1st non-display character (S12). When it is judged that the character is the 1st non-display character, the 2nd non-display character is substituted for the 1st non-display character (S13), then the pointer is updated (S14), and the substitution is repeated until a character other than the 1st non- display characters appears at the position indicated by the pointer. |
