A rotating traverse roller 1 comprises a double-tiered stepped double-helical groove 2, the ends of the two helical portions being joined by arcuate curves 3 in which the narrow, radially inner groove portion 8 is widened to the width of the radially outer groove portion (Figs. 1, 4), and the groove is followed by a shuttle-like slide member 5 (Figs. 2, 5, 7) the lower portion 11 of which follows the radially inner groove portion 8 in the helical portions, and the upper portion 12 of which is shaped to run against the radially outer groove portion in the curved portions 3 only. The slide member 5 may be formed of polyamide plastics, and may have flats 14 formed on the side of its wide portion 12 (Fig. 9) so that contact with the curved groove portions 3 only occurs at its ends. A pin 4 of the slide member is guided between parallel rails and traverses a yarn guide. The sides of the lower portion 11 of the slide member may be substantially parallel, or shaped to correspond to the helical groove form. The outer diameter of the roller may be reduced between the reversing curves to that of the bottom of the radially outer groove portion (Fig. 8). |
