VEHICLE SAFETY DEVICE CONTROL SYSTEM WITH FAILURE DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain a vehicle safety device control system with failure diagnosis function which can maintain detection accuracy of vehicle collision highly and can diagnose failure of a piezoelectric element accurately. CONSTITUTION:A determination means 55 which determines evaluation characteristics for a signal from a piezoelectric element 10 in a signal evaluation means 20 is provided with first and second determination elements 53A and 53B and a selection means 54. A diagnosis means 60 provides a diagnosis pulse SDG to the piezoelectric element and at the same time feeds a switching command signal SSW to a selection means in synchronization with the diagnosis pulse. The selection means selects a first determination element when it does not receive the switching command signal and selects a second determination element when it receives the switching command signal. The first determination element is determined to compensate scattering of acceleration-output characteristics of the piezoelectric element. The second determination element is determined to obtain a comparison result where the signal evaluation means is nearly constant.
