PURPOSE:To provide a new halogenated (m-diphenylphosphinobenzyl)trialkyl ammonium useful as a ligand of a palladium complex having high catalytic efficiency on various organic synthetic reactions. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I (R<1> to R<3> are 1-4C alkyl; X is halogen), e.g. (m-diphenylphosphinobenzyl)trimethyl ammonium bromide. The compound of formula I can be produced e.g. by reacting m-bromobenzoic acid of formula II with a halogenation agent (e.g. thionyl chloride) to form an acid chloride, reacting with a secondary amine (e.g. dimethylamine), reducing the obtained m-bromobenzoic acid amide of formula III with a reducing agent (e.g. lithium aluminum hydride), reacting the reduction product with butyllithium and diphenylphosphine chloride, reacting the resultant compound of formula IV with an alkyl iodide and finally reacting the product with sodium bromide, etc., in the presence of sulfuric acid and trioctylamine. |
