The present invention relates to an articulation device for a motor vehicle (1) transverse rear door (2d). This device, which allows articulation of a transverse door (2d) about a substantially vertical axis (X-X') close to a lateral rear signalling light (13d) is of the type including a lower hinge (22) and an upper hinge (21), and is characterised in that the lower hinge (22) is situated below the rear light (13d) and, in the closed position of the door (2d), has a shape generally coincident with the profile of an external connector between the corresponding side (11d) of the body (10) and of the said door (2d). This invention applies to vehicles of various types, for example utility (commercial) vehicles. <IMAGE>
