PURPOSE:To omit a shaping prism and to reduce the size, weight and price of an optical head by irradiating a recording track with an elliptic optical spot so that the minor axis of an ellipse is inclined from the scanning direction of the tracks. CONSTITUTION:The optical axis of a laser beam radiated from a laser diode 11 is allowed to coincide with that of a collimeter lens 13 and an elliptic optical spot 35 is made incident upon a recording track 33a of a magneto-optical disk 31 to form its image. In this case, the minor axis of the elliptic spot 35 is inclined from the scanning direction Ts of the track 33a to irradiate only the track 33a so that the spot 35 is not made incident upon its adjacent tracks 33b, 33c. The inclination of the spot 35 can simply be adjusted by rotating the diode 11 in the optical axis direction of the projected beam. Thereby a shaping prism can be omitted or simplified and the size, weight and price of the optical head can be reduced. |
