PURPOSE:To obtain the subject new compound having ultraviolet rays absorbing action, mixable as an ultraviolet rays absorber of natural source with cosmetic, etc. CONSTITUTION:An anthraquinone-based compound expressed by formula. Appearance: yellowish orange solid at normal temperature. Solubility: soluble in organic solvents and insoluble in water. The compound is obtained by grinding sesame hair roots derived from cells of sesame plant by using an organic solvent such as methanol, extracting components in the cells, successively subjecting the extract to normal-phase column chromatography using a polar filler such as silica gel, and then to reverse-phase column chromatography using a nonpolar filler such as octadecylsilica gel and to reverse phase-based high performance liquid chromatography using a nonpolar filler. The sesame hair roots are preferably obtained by germinating seeds of sesame, cutting the seedlings at 1-2cm below the apex at a point of time when the size of the germinated seeds is 5-8cm, infecting the cut face of the root side with a bacterium of the genus Agrobacterium and culturing the prepared whisker-shaped rhizoid tissue. |
