<p>An apparatus (10) for relieving residual stresses and stabilizing modal behavior in a workpiece (12), and/or analyzing change in modal behavior in a workpiece (12) to detect buildup of residual stresses. The apparatus (10) includes an exciter (14) for vibrating the workpiece (12). In addition, the apparatus (10) further includes a computer (32), for varying the frequency at which the workpiece (12) is vibrated in response to the change in vibration amplitude of the velocity of the workpiece (12) as the workpiece (12) is vibrated.</p> |
