Detecting incorrect teeth count in inductive sensor in vehicle - measuring and comparing wheel speed measurements during acceleration period and generating appropriate warning signal

The method is active whilst the slowest of a vehicle's wheels is accelerating from a lower, non-zero, speed to a defined higher speed. The duration of the acceleration period is measured. The ratio of the speed (vmax) of the fastest wheel to that (vs) of another wheel on the same side is tested against a limit (fmin) which cannot be exceeded as a result of tyre tolerances, etc. The time for which the limit is exceeded is measured. At the end of the acceleration period, if the second time exceeds a defined fraction of the acceleration period then an error is detected and a warning or switch-off signal passed to the associated control system. USE/ADVANTAGE - For use in anti-lock or anti-skid vehicle control systems. Faulty pulse wheel is detected early rather than after long filtering period.
