The invention relates to a capping element (1) for a capping machine for capping bottles (4) with crown corks (15) or similar caps by means of the capping element which is arranged above a bottle support, can be lowered along a vertical axis (L) from a starting position, can be returned to the said starting position and has a deformation element for mounting the respective cap on the mouth (4') of the bottle and for subsequently fastening the cap on the said mouth by deforming said cap with simultaneous pressing of the said cap against the mouth and a holding-down device (26) which passes through the centre of the deformation element and is spring-loaded by means of at least one holding-down spring element (25). So that as well as being mounted gently and in good time on the bottle to be capped, the cap can also be reliably aligned and/or centred with respect to the bottle and so that the bottle which has been provided with the cap can be reliably aligned and/or centred with respect to the capping element, the holding-down device can be displaced in the vertical axis through a predetermined stroke (X1) with respect to a capping element part which interacts with the holding-down spring (25). To permit CIP cleaning, apertures (41, 42) for feeding and discharging a cleaning or rinsing liquid are provided on that part of the holding-down device (26) which has the holding-down surface (27). At least one of these openings is connected, via a canal which extends through the holding-down device (37, 37', 38), to a connection (40) which is provided in the region of that end of the holding-down device which is at a distance from the holding-down surface. <IMAGE> |
