PURPOSE:To provide a device capable of calculating a fine mixture ratio which is more conformed to a picture area by selecting a table by defining edge density as the decision value for the switch of a mixture ratio table. CONSTITUTION:A certain fixed threshold is used as edge density in a decision result 108, binarization is performed in a binarizing circuit 1081 and either one of two kinds of look-up tables whose degree of edge emphasis is changed is selected in an edge emphasis ratio calculation means 1082. Namely, the edge density in a MXM picture element block including an aimed picture element is defined as the decision value for the switch of a mixture ratio table. When edge density is large even if the edge intensity of the aimed picture element is the same value, a table which makes the ratio of the edge emphasis larger is selected. In the reverse case, a table which makes the smoothening ratio larger is selected. The edge emphasis ratio is calculated by the edge intensity by using the selected look-up table. The calculated edge emphasis ratio is inputted in a smoothening ratio calculation means 1083 and the smoothening ratio is calculated. |
