<p>A method and apparatus for the recovery of components of dry batteries, especially zinc-carbon dry cells, in which at least the carbon and/or the zinc is recovered from the components of the dry cell. The base plate (4a) of the zinc sleeve (4) of the sorted dry cells (1) which are to be processed is removed by cutting and the carbon rod (3) is then pushed out of the dry cell (1) without a base plate in the longitudinal direction, after which the electrolyte compound (5) is removed from the zinc sleeve (4) by pushing out in the longitudinal direction, the cut-off base plate (4a) preferably being collected together with the zinc sleeve (4), the carbon rod (3) and the electrolyte compound (5) in contrast being collected separately. The apparatus has a cell supply unit (8), a feed-clamping unit (g), a base plate cutting unit (10), a unit (11) for pushing the carbon rod out, a unit (12) for pushing the electrolyte out and a sleeve removal unit (13), which are arranged successively along the processing track (P) of the dry cell (1). A driver mechanism (14) is furthermore provided which can transport the dry cell (1) along the processing track (P).
