This rack (1) comprises a bottom rack (2), two side walls (3), a tool holder plate (4) located on the bottom between the walls, and a lid (5), which, as well as the plate, are freely articulated and attached removably on a transverse spindle (6) supported by the walls (3), the plate includes a series of transverse corrugations defining alternate planes (13, 14) which are parallel and inclined with respect to the bottom, and in one (14) of which small blocks (15) for holding the tools (17...20) are placed, each plane (14) corresponding to one determined type of tool. The lid (5), the bottom (2) and its walls (3) and the plate (4) can be separated with ease at the end of lifting the lid, the suitably inclined corrugations making it possible to place the successive rows of tools (17...20) in a position which is easy for the surgeon to grip; openings made in the lid (5), in the bottom (2) as well as at the front and at the rear of the rack make it possible to sterilise the rack/tool assembly as a unit. <IMAGE>
