SCALPING DEVICE FOR COATED OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To provide the scalping device for small-sized coated optical fibers which does not occupy a space in a direction where the coated optical fibers to be connected are supplied. CONSTITUTION:A scalping blade 13a is provided on the right end side of a scalping base plate 14 and a scalping blade 13b is provided on the left end side of this base plate 14. The scalping blade 13a and the scalping blade 13b are provided by shifting the positions in forward and backward directions orthogonal with each other in the direction where the coated optical fibers 11a, 11b are supplied. To scalp the coated optical fiber 11a and the coated optical fiber 11b, the coated optical fiber 11a is projected by as much as the length of scalping to the scalping base plate 14 side from the scalping blade 13a and similarly the coated optical fiber 11b is projected to the scalping base plate 14 side by as much as the scalping length from the scalping blade 13b. The coating members of the coated optical fibers are lanced by the scalping blade 13a and the scalping blade 13b. The coated optical fiber 11a is then pulled off rightward by a fiber gripping part 12a and the coated optical fiber 11b is pulled off leftward by a fiber gripping part 12b. The coated optical fibers 11a 11b are thus simultaneously scalped.
